🌱 Plant Powered Kidz

How to Play

Fun, simple steps to help kids get excited about eating more plants. Small goals, big victories!

1
Earn Plant Points

Each time your child eats a plant food—fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds, herbs, or spices—they earn one Plant Point. Each different plant counts as its own point.

2
Set a Reasonable Weekly Goal

Caretakers choose a weekly Plant Point goal that feels realistic and achievable for their child. Goals should feel encouraging and flexible—some weeks will look different, and that’s okay.

3
Track Weekly Progress on the Board

Each time your child meets their weekly Plant Point goal, they earn a sticker (or smiley face) on the sticker chart. Sticker charts track successful weeks—not daily points—and can be combined over multiple weeks. Free charts are available at here.

4
Celebrate Success

Celebrate progress in simple, meaningful, non-food ways: praise, high-fives, choosing a family activity, extra story time, or earning an outing or small prize. Celebrations should reinforce effort, curiosity, and confidence.

At Plant Powered Kidz...

we believe building healthy habits should be joyful, stress-free, and never about “good” or “bad” foods.

As a Registered Dietitian, I know how important it is for kids to eat a wide variety of foods while developing a positive relationship with food. As a mom, I also know how quickly mealtime can turn into power struggles - and that pushing too hard can backfire, leading to an unhealthy relationship with eating.

Research shows that when kids arenvolved in planning, gardening, and cooking, they’re more open to tryingnew foods. We believe there’s room for everything - from veggies and wholegrains to cakes and ice cream. Our goal is simply to inspire kids to explorethe rainbow of plants nature provides. A diverse diet supports a healthymicrobiome, which can improve digestion, boost immunity, and even influencemood.

That’s why I created a fun, engaging game to spark curiosity, reduce mealtime battles, and get kids genuinely excited about trying new foods. What began at my own kitchen table is now something I’m proud to share with families everywhere.

Our mission is simple: to make healthy eating fun for kids and stress-free for caretakers - while also giving back. With every game purchased, families not only build stronger habits at home, but also provide 23 meals for children facing hunger, because we believe every child deserves access to proper nutrition.

What Is a Plant Point?

A Plant Point is any plant food you eat.
Plants not only provide a plethora of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals but they also nourish the beneficial bacteria in your gut (your microbiome). In return, these bacteria support overall health by strengthening the immune system, influencing mood and brain health, and helping maintain a healthy weight.

Plants provide fiber, and fiber is the primary fuel for gut bacteria. The more variety of plants you eat, the more diverse and resilient your microbiome becomes — which is strongly associated with better health outcomes across the lifespan.

Both children and adults benefit from a diverse, robust microbiome. The Plant Points approach was designed to create a positive, non-restrictive way for children to build healthy habits while supporting a thriving microbial ecosystem.

And yes — some of our favorite foods count too. Popcorn and dark chocolate included.
